ドイツのベルリンを拠点に世界中で活躍する、ヴァイオリニスト／音楽家Davis West。
２年ぶりにリリースされた待望のEP「Doesn`t Have to Make Much Sense」のカバーアートを描かせて頂きました。

意味がわからなくても、不確かでも、言葉にならなくても、
あふれ出る、そこに確かにあるもの。
DavisのViolinと言葉が放つ”Out of the words” な音楽は、私にとっては５篇の小説でした。
夜明け前の街をのっそりと歩くライオンは、何を想い、どこへ行くのか。
その答えも、”Doesn’t Have to Make Much Sense”。わからなくても良いのです。

1. Ahoy

   「今はまだ意味がわからなくてもいい」というDavisの言葉で始まる表題曲。
   うつろい流れていく世界で、「君は君の心のまま、そのままで」と、朝もやの中、遠くの船に旅人が呼びかける。

2. M99

   いびつな過去も未来も、世界も宇宙も、全てを愛せるくらい、大好きな気持ち。
   心地よい浮遊感の中に、静かな狂気が漂うポップチューン。

3. Leaves

   散りゆく無力な言の葉と、想いあうが故にすれ違い、別れゆく二人。
   ”Leaves”の掛け言葉が絡み合い、二人のデュエットは次第に孤独な一人のソロになってゆく。
   切ないのに何度も繰り返し聴きたくなる一曲。

4. Hymn for her

   束の間、心を通わせた大切な人への想いに満ち溢れる。
   どこへ歩いて行こうと、その道に幸いがあるように。たとえ一緒に歩けなくとも。

5. Roselit Shades

   薔薇色の光と影が映し出す、燃え上がる恋と別れの予感。
   どうにもならない情熱と本能が、美しく鮮烈に瞼に残る。

Berlin-based violinist and musician Davis West, whose work resonates across the world, returns with his long-awaited EP “Doesn’t Have to Make Much Sense” after two years. I had the honor of creating the cover artwork for this release.

Even when it doesn’t make sense, even when it feels uncertain, even when it cannot be put into words—something undeniable overflows and exists there. Davis’s violin and language, reaching “out of the words,” felt to me like five short stories.

A lion walks slowly through the city before dawn—what is it thinking, and where is it going?
Perhaps the answer, too, doesn’t have to make much sense.

Ahoy
The title track opens with Davis’s words: “It’s okay if it doesn’t make sense yet.” In a world that constantly shifts and drifts, a traveler calls out to a distant ship through the morning haze—“Just be as you are, true to your heart.”

M99
A deep, overwhelming love that embraces everything—distorted past and future, the world, the universe. A pop piece where a gentle sense of floating meets a quiet madness.

Leaves
Fading, fragile words fall like leaves. Two people, drawn together yet drifting apart, their duet gradually dissolving into a solitary voice. Heartbreaking, yet endlessly replayable.

Hymn for Her
A piece filled with tender feelings for someone once deeply connected. Wherever you walk, may your path be blessed—even if we no longer walk it together.

Roselit Shades
Rose-colored light and shadow reflect a burning love and the premonition of farewell. Irresistible passion and instinct linger vividly, leaving a beautiful afterimage behind.
